Employee-Owned Trust (EOT)

In April 2024, we transitioned to an Employee-Owned Trust (EOT). This transition represents the culmination of our vision, marking a significant milestone in our journey together at Tops & Aspire.

What is an EOT Company?

Employee ownership describes when a business is fully or partly owned by its employees. It aims to give colleagues more of a sense of belonging, accountability, and the right to have a say about the running of the company, its future, and opportunities. It also allows all colleagues to potentially benefit financially from the future success of the company.

So, what exactly does it mean to be owned by an EOT?

An EOT is an independent legal entity that holds shares in a company on behalf of its eligible employees. In the case of Tops Day Nurseries and Aspire Training Team, eligible colleagues will be all those with 12 months’ continuous service. All current colleagues with 12 months’ continuous service will automatically become beneficiaries of the Tops Day Nurseries and Aspire Training Team EOT, while those with less than 12 months’ service will become eligible on their 12 month anniversary.

But what does this mean for our employees? Let’s delve into the benefits:

Ownership and Shared Success: As part of the EOT, you will become coowners of our company. This means that as the company grows and succeeds, so do you. Our collective efforts will directly contribute to the success and sustainability of our business.

Commitment to Collaboration and Transparency: Transparency and collaboration have always been core values of our company, and they will continue to be under the EOT structure, with continued open communication channels, sharing our goals and objectives, remaining transparent in our performance, and celebrating individual and teamwork through recognition and reward.

Long-Term Stability and Growth: The EOT model is designed to promote long-term stability and growth. By fostering a sense of ownership and accountability among employees, we are better positioned to weather challenges and seize opportunities in the years to come.

Employee Well-being and Development: Employee ownership isn’t just about financial benefits; it also prioritises the well-being and development of our team. We invest in training and continuous professional development to support your growth and fulfillment within our company.

Your Voice Matters: As an employee-owned company, your voice matters. We encourage active participation in decision-making processes, ensuring that your insights and perspectives shape the direction of our company, which is why we formed the Employee Ownership Trust board, the ‘moral’ guardians working on behalf of the majority shareholders – the partners, to voice your insights and perspectives.
