Are there any external or national opportunities for people who have been trained up to become colleague/partner reps, or to represent the council on the board?

In April 2024, Tops Day Nurseries and Aspire Training Team embarked on a transformative journey, transitioning into an Employee-Owned Trust (EOT).  Amidst the excitement of this transformative change, it’s natural for questions to surface. To address these enquiries and offer clarity, we’ve developed a series of insightful blogs aimed at addressing some of the most common queries, one of the main questions is ‘Are there any external or national opportunities for people who have been trained up to become colleague/partner reps, or to represent the council on the board?’.

The simple answer is yes, there are.

There is a national Association of EOTs. An example of how this can lead to other opportunities is a nursery educator at Childbase progressed onto this group and is now paid to help others. It took her several years of CPD, and practising the role, but she enjoyed it very much and can now advise other companies on how to set up Colleague Councils. There are many skills involved in this, including understanding finance, collaboration, representation, advocacy, negotiation and legalities, and training can be provided either internally or via the Association to develop yours if you become interested.
