Starting your new career can be naturally daunting, so having a relaxed introduction into the world of childcare using Aspire Training Team’s Level one Caring for Children Qualification can be the perfect way to give you an idea of what a career in childcare is like. There are many benefits to starting a Level 1 apprenticeship which is available to all 16-18 year olds across Dorset, Devon, Hampshire, Somerset & Wiltshire.
It takes a special person to be a child carer. For the time in which those children are in your care, you are responsible for their parents and carers’ most precious possession, making looking after babies and children a highly responsible, rewarding and a self-gratifying role. This is not only a job but a life choice in which you can make and have a positive impact on many children’s early years.
What would the course look like?
A typical week as a Tops apprentice consists of three days (Monday-Wednesday) in one of our Tops Day Nurseries settings and one day (Thursday) Tutor lead workshop with other students on the course. This is where you will gain information and skills in which you can use to develop your knowledge and practice when working with the children.
This course is available all year round and covers topics including communication, positive interactions, child development and activities to promote learning. We can also support you with Functional skills maths and English across various levels.
What are the benefits of a Level 1 Childcare Course?
There are many ‘perks’ to being a level 1 student including term time only training, Fridays and all bank holidays off, paid travel expenses and a free police check. We also provide you with a suitable work experience setting local to you. This will all be arranged with you by your Tutor.
We believe that a practical approach to childcare can be very beneficial for students as you can gain as much, if not more, experience and knowledge from actual work experience than a ‘classroom’ based learning environment.
Many 16-18 year olds may have little experience and lack confidence so starting a level 1 course that offers incredible amounts of support and tutoring is a great way to learn new experiences in a safe and friendly environment whilst building self-esteem. Many of our students feel anxious or have mental health issues to juggle alongside training, all we ask if that if you are honest with us, we can help you.
Some young people may have a lot going on in their personal lives so cannot or aren’t ready to commit to a full apprenticeship. Similarly, they may just be looking into what a career in childcare looks like before they take it on full time so a Level 1 is a great way to get an understanding of childcare.
It is a great way to mature as an individual and to learn new and hands on skills that you wouldn’t be able to get if you were doing other forms of education. There are so many careers where practical experience is more important than academic experience.
A level 1 course also gives you a head start on apprenticeship training such as the ITC and gaining a free DBS check which allows you to progress into the next levels of apprenticeship training.
