Everybody wants to be happy, especially at work. We spend a huge amount of our time there, so why wouldn’t you want to be happy?
When we are happy at work, we are likely to also be happier in other areas of our lives. There is a firm belief across the UK that happiness at work should be on the list of top priorities of all organisations, big and small, national and international.
This week, the 20th to the 26th September 2021 is the International Week of Happiness at Work, started by Maartje Wolff and Fennande van der Meulen in 2015.
Happiness at work pays off. When you are happy, you are healthier, more vital, more cheerful and more successful. For organisations, happier employees are more involved, more productive, more cooperative, more creative and more innovative. They are less likely to call in sick, and there is a decreased chance they will experience burnout.
Happiness at work is about meaningful work, healthy relationships, development and having fun. It’s about stopping unnecessary rules, power play, complicated processes and procedures, absenteeism, unmotivated colleagues and terrible managers.
Here at Tops and Aspire, we have created a workplace to stimulate fun, appreciation, positive feedback, awesome challenges, trust, meaningful results and our own responsibilities.
We asked some of our staff members an important question: “What is one thing that makes you happy working at Tops & Aspire?”
Here is what they said.
“The family that I work alongside at Tops. Not a day goes by where we don’t look after each other, support each other’s dreams and ambitions and ensure that everyone feels part of our work family. I couldn’t work alongside anyone more caring and supportive even if I tried. I value and appreciate everything each one of you brings to the family.” – Katie Duke, Senior Nursery Manager at Tops Havant.
“Having a job role that has variety, room to grow and develop myself, as well as feeling included and valued” – Rob Arnold, Business Development Manager at Aspire Training Team.
“I love working with all my colleagues and I’ll do anything for the team as I’m always happy to help. Loving cleaning is just a bonus!” – Lily Cox, Cleaner at Tops Poole.
“Hands down, it has to be my team, the dedication and passion they have for their learners is truly inspirational, the support they show each other when needed is out of this world. I have the best, most caring team ever and I’m very proud of each and every one of them!” – Kelly Medley, Director of Quality and Audit at Aspire Training Team.
“The friendly working environment!” – Sarah Harley, Compliance Manager
“I think it is the people that I work with that makes it more of a special place to work. To be surrounded by people that are so supportive and friendly. Not to mention the weekly healthy snacks the company provides, absolutely amazing!” – Yusuf Akanni, Recruitment Team Leader
“The team, they’re phenomenal. They react so quickly to anything we challenge them with, and truly are the backbone of the marketing department. Marketing is an ever-changing industry, and the team have managers who have an idea and run with it before working out the logistics, to which they adapt and overcome anything we ask of them!” – Harley Dady, Marketing Coordinator
