KITCHEN MANAGER

Location: Tops Gillingham, Gillingham, Dorset

Pay rate: £13.00 per hour

Contracted Hours: 35-40 hours per week/Full time

Tops Gillingham Nursery is a 96 place Day Nursery & Pre-School situated in Gillingham. The nursery run several extra-curricular activities including Tops Forest School, baby massage sessions, Holiday club (after school care) and much more!  We’re rated 9.5 by daynurseries.co.uk and graded GOOD by OFSTED.

About You

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Kitchen Manager at Tops Nurseries.

About the Role:

As a Kitchen Manager, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the smooth operation of the hub and satellite kitchens, cooking for several nurseries, and delivering fresh and amazing food. Your responsibilities will include preparing delicious and nutritious lunches and teas according to our set menu and recipes for several nurseries from one hub kitchen. Additionally, you will have the exciting opportunity to host a weekly cooking class for the children, fostering their love for food and culinary skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and empower the catering team to uphold high meal preparation and delivery standards, aligning with our company ethos and seasonal availability.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, key workers, parents, local education authorities, and other relevant agencies.
  • Ensure kitchens maintain a 5* environmental health certificate and adhere to all hygiene, health & safety, and environmental health regulations.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and coaching to catering colleagues on hygiene, food preparation, and compliance with regulations.
  • Attend and contribute to catering forums and workshops to develop new menus, products, and services while managing budgets and equipment efficiently.
  • Introduce and demonstrate new cooking techniques and equipment to the team, fostering continuous improvement.
  • Advise and support updating policies and procedures related to allergen management and food safety.
  • Maintain records of production and operational data for reporting to the Catering Manager.
  • Investigate and address any complaints in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a childcare setting.
  • Passion for cooking and ensuring children enjoy nutritious meals.
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene, health & safety, and environmental health regulations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
  • Creativity in menu planning and willingness to introduce new dishes within guidelines.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
