Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan visited one of our nurseries in Southsea on Thursday 15th August, to meet with the children and the Founder and Chair, Cheryl Hadland, to see the work of our dedicated nursery team firsthand.
Who is Stephen Morgan?
Stephen Morgan is the Labour MP for Portsmouth South, and has been an MP continually since 8 June 2017. He currently holds the Government post of Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Education). Mr Morgan will be responsible for delivering better childcare and early education to give every child the best start in life.
Stephen visited during lunchtime to experience the vibrant atmosphere and observe the excellent self-serving practices and the enthusiasm of both children and staff during mealtime. Tops Southsea was able to demonstrate to Stephen the exceptional meals provided by our catering team, who take great pride in delivering nutritious and delicious food.
As he sat with the children, they chatted about their lunch which was chicken and black bean tacos with tomato and avocado salsa, and engaged with them about their day, creating a warm and engaging environment.
Stephen also had important discussions with Cheryl and the staff, focusing on the crucial role of the Early Years sector in Portsmouth, the expansion of funded childcare spaces being rolled out from April 2024 in the city, and the benefits of the EOT for the nursery.
Speaking after the visit, Cheryl Hadland said: “Children do not have a vote, and need us all to represent them and their needs for the future, so it was great to be able to share our concerns for them with Stephen Morgan”.
