We are delighted to introduce our first male Nursery Manager, Simon Evans, joining our Tops Day Nursery in Winchester (an Ofsted ‘Good’ nursery) in April 2018.
Here is what Simon had to say about joining Tops Day Nursery, Winchester:
“I am excited to be joining the Tops family and becoming the Nursery Manager of the Winchester setting.
I decided to apply for the position as after being a Deputy Manager I felt ready for the next step in my career. Having looked at the Tops website I knew it would be a family of nurseries that would make me feel welcome and one were I could flourish as a Manager.
I have over 10 years’ experience of working in childcare and during that time I have been a Pre-School Room Manager and also a Deputy Manager of a 100 place day nursery. In 2013 I was awarded the NDNA Nursery Practitioner of the year award, which was a real honour as this was voted by the parents.
I have a Foundation Degree in Working with Children and in 2014 I Graduated from Southampton University with a BA (2:1) in Education and Training. Over the years I have undertaken a number of training courses including: Senco, Behaviour management, safeguarding and advanced child development.
After finishing school I decided that I wanted a career in the care industry but wasn’t sure of what sector I wanted to work in. I went to study care at college and one of my placements was at a Pre-School, this was when I decided that I wanted a future career in early years. After finishing College I found my first job in childcare and while working there I undertook my NVQ level 3 in childcare and stayed in the same nursery for over 10 years.
From initial contact regarding the position at Tops Day Nursery the process has been straightforward with regular contact from the Recruitment Team, keeping me informed at each stage of the application. All staff have been very welcoming and the interview process was thorough but in a welcoming and relaxed environment.
I’m looking forward to being part of the Tops family and building up relationships with the staff, children and families I will be working with.”
